METONYMY “THE-PART-FOR-THE-WHOLE” OF PEOPLE IN “TREASURE ISLAND” BY ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON

Abstract

Metonymy often appears in conversations, writing and especially literature. They consist of many subtypes including “the-part-for-the-whole” which is received much concerns. This subtype can be served for many purposes, especially, for people. This article analyzes this subtype of metonymy in “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson to address this problem and then, propose some suggestions for teaching and learning English rhetorical devices.
