Abstract
Abstract: This article examines the experiences of 50 Vietnamese students and one Japanese
student participating in an intercultural collaborative learning model (共修学習) in a Business
Japanese course at the Department of Japanese Language and Culture, University of Foreign
Languages, Hue University. The model was found to enhance students’ Japanese proficiency, cultural
understanding, and confidence in communication. Notably, it provided opportunities for students
without the means to study abroad to interact directly with a native speaker in the classroom,
contributing to effective internationalization at home. The Japanese student also valued the chance to
reevaluate their mother tongue and engage in a multicultural learning environment. To further
improve the model’s effectiveness, the study recommends detailed pre-lesson preparation and the
design of balanced, two-way interactive activities for both Vietnamese and Japanese students.
Key words: Intercultural collaborative learning; Business Japanese course; intercultural
