Motivations behind the trend of using English original orthography in a Vietnamese magazine

Abstract

This paper analyses the trend towards the orignal orthography of English loanwords in Hoa hoc tro - a magazine for Vietnamese teenagers and discusses the motivations behind this trend. The findings show that there exist  qui te a few variants of spellings which imply the inconsistency of such adapted forms, and many English loans with orthographic adaptation have switched to their original orthography
