Differences in culture and translation of "cultural elements" in Chinese -Vietnamese translation

Abstract

Translation is not merely a process of converting one language to another but also one of imparting culture. In order to translate accurately, a translator should not only master characteristics of a language but also pay attention to cultural elements co ntained within the shell of languages. This paper is to analyze cultural differences and their impacts on the process of language conversion illustrated by practical experiences of translation, and to recommend several ways to handle the translation of cul tural elements, thereby reinforcing the importance of recognizing cultural differences in Chinese  - Vietnamese translation.
