CHARACTERISTIC OF THE LANGUAGE USE IN THE CHINESE COMMUNITY IN BAC LIEU CITY, BAC LIEU PROVINCE

Abstract

This article reports the result of language competence and characteristic of the language use of the Hoa/Chinese community in Bac Lieu city. The language competence and language use in the Hoa community in Bac Lieu city is influenced by factors such as age , domains of communication, mixed  marriage, but age  is an  important factor in their  language competence and  language choice particularly in the home domain. The language choice of the Hoa people has changed drastically from the older members to the younger  members.
