MODES OF EXPRESSING EMOTION IN THE REPORTAGE "TÚP LỀU NÁT" BY NGUYEN DONG CHI

Abstract

In the reportage "Túp lều nát", journalist Nguyen Tran Ai (aka Nguyen Dong Chi) meticulously collected each and every story and event at places he passed by; he observed, reported and shared with the miserable "grassroots" their misfortune and resentment; as well as expressed his indignation, painful irony and despise the cruel, heartless government and village officials who had pushed the common people to their dead end. The writing studied and described the modes of expressing emotion in the reportage, in order to highlight one of the specific characteristics of the Vietnamese reportage language in the early half of the 20th century, and Nguyen Dong Chi's contribution to this field.
