A CONTRAST OF EMBEDDED CLAUSES IN VIETNAMESE AND ENGLISH SENTENCES

Abstract

In both Vietnamese and English, a clause, which consists of a subject and a finite verb, can be used as a component of a sentence or an attribute of a noun. This kind of clause is called Embedded Clause. Such clauses have certain features in the two languages. The aim of this article is to analyze the patterns of the clauses, and compare and contrast their similarities and differences in Vietnamese and English sentences. The result may help those who learn the language to master embedded clauses and use them effectively and perfectly.
