SOME FEATURES OF VIETNAMESE NAMES AND CHINESE NAMES

Abstract

Names are personal "treasures" which are used in most social communications and names themseves contain cultural values. The Chinese and Vietnamese used to have not only surnames but also first names, and titles. The ways of naming changes over time, reflecting social existence and social consciousness. In this article, some features of the meaning of "Tính, thị, dạnh, tự, hiệu" are introduced in relation with the culture of Chinese names and Vietnamese names.
