SEMANTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF CONVERSION OF ENGLISH WORDS DENOTING HUMAN BODY PARTS

Abstract

In the previous article, an indepth study was conducted into the grammatical characteristics of conversion of English words denoting human body parts, based on a corpus of 50 English words for the human body which undergo conversion, together with their 129 meanings. In this paper, from the same corpus, the semantic aspect of the phenomenon will be thoroughly investigated to find out the how semantic change takes place through process of conversion.
