SOME REMARKS ON LINGUISTIC - CULTURAL FEATURES OF VIETNAMESE EUPHEMISMS

Abstract

As a special language phenomenon, euphemism is used to avoid embarrassment or to ease the sting of harsh words. The existence and origin of euphemisms seem to be universal. However, each language community has its own way of thinking based on different social - cultural environment. This brings to euphemisms in each language a different semantic environment. Studying on Vietnamese euphemisms can reveal not only lingual features but also of our own ethnic social-cultural characteristics .
