Realization of modalization through modal adjuncts in English commencement addresses: a systemic functional analysis

Abstract

    M. A. K. Halliday's Systemic Functional Grammar theoiy of modality is used to investigate the realization of modalization by using modal adjuncts in live English commencement addresses. Modalization is realized through ten categories of modal adjuncts. Among them, usuality. Intensity, and time adjuncts are employed most frequently in the chosen speeches
