Abstract

The papers analyses the foundational data, beginning with evaluating the importance of computer-mediated communication (CMC). The analytical section starts from a general introduction about the pedagogical characteristics of CMC in general education, to instmctional features of CMC in language education. One of the conclusions drawn from the investigations is that CMC, both synchronous and asynchronous, possesses potentials that can help improve the learners' language leaming process. Another conclusion is that there should be more comprehensive research in the future about various comers of CMC; this would be able to help us various particulars of this novel method of communication, especially in the context teaching and learning English in Vietnam, where the concept of CMC, as well as its applications into education in general and in language education in specific is still under-exploited.
