An introduction to Jonathan Culpeper's theory of impoliteness

Abstract

    This paper infroduces the main ideas in Culpeper's perception of impoliteness, including bis definition of impoliteness, two kinds of impoliteness (inherent impoliteness and mock impoliteness) and impoliteness strategies. This impoliteness framework is parallel but opposite to Brown and Levinson's theory of politeness.
