Restructuring credit institutions not only helps reduce the number of credit institutions through mergers, consolidations, or dissolution but also contributes to strengthening the system, ensuring liquidity, handling bad debts, and preventing systemic collapsesin the banking sector. From 2011 to the present, there have been three decisions to restructure the banking system, with an average period of five years for each restructuring. However, dealing with bad debts still
poses significant risks to the safety and effectiveness of credit institutions. Based on an assessment of the current situation of credit institutions in Vietnam, the authors propose several recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of credit institution restructuring andbad debt resolution in the future.
