Abstract

The smart customs model is highly automated, applying new and modern scientific and technological achievements on a digital, paperless platform, ensuring transparency, fairness, effectiveness, and efficiency. Vietnam Customs has defined the components of the smart customs model to include smart border management; chain management and digital ecosystem; optimal service provision; smart connectivity and processing; and transparency, fairness, and consistency. Smart border management is one of the key components of the smart customs model. This article discusses the World Customs Organization’s perspective on smart
borders; Vietnam’s implementation of smart border management within the smart customs model and some arising issues; and the viewpoints and solutions for smart border management in Vietnam’s smart customs model.
