Attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) of Vietnam in recent years has achieved impressive results. In the past 10 years, annual FDI flows into Vietnam increased by approximately 1,000%. Particularly in 2018, the total capital of newly registered and additional FDI projects was approximately USD 35.46 billion, of which implemented FDI was USD 19.1 billion, increasing 9.1% compared to 2017. Although FDI attraction has recorded impressive results, Vietnam is also gradually aware of the need to have a strategic change in policy, specifically towards attracting the new-generation FDI, the “green” FDI, to maintain competitiveness and attract FDI in association with sustainable development goals.
