Abstract

Increasing challenges such as urbanization and science and technology boom are placing an imperative demand for forming smart cities of more livability, sustainability. Keeping up with global trends and the process of transforming growth models to enhance the quality and competitiveness of the economy, Vietnam has been implementing strategies to build smart cities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and other locations. However, the process of constructing and  implementing smart cities nationwide has encountered various issues and significant challenges. This article focuses on the implications of applying technology for innovative economic reform to target at long-term smartness, thereby suggesting key policy recommendations in the context of smart urban development in Vietnam.
