Abstract

This article employs the indices measuring the level of development in the stock market within the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Financial Market Development Index to assess the level of development of the Vietnamese stock market.  Vietnam’s stock market development level is equivalent to that of Indonesia and considerably lags behind the stock markets in Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. In order to promote the development of the stock market towards a modern, efficient and intergrated market into the international capital market and become a primary channel for long-term capital mobilization in the economy, several recommendations for the evelopment of the Vietnamese stock market have
been proposed, focusing on enhancing market depth, accessibility, and efficiency.
