Power cable is an important component in transmission line of the power network. For cables, the reliability of cable joints is crucial as cable joints are areas where faults frequently occur in underground cable systems. The causes of cable joint failure can be identified through in-field monitoring of their electrical and temperature parameters. Real-time temperature monitoring of electrical cable joints can detect overheating of joints so that insulation aging can be assessed, thereby potential cable safety problems are detected early and promptly removed. In this paper, the temperature monitoring and warning system of the power cable joint are designed based on the design principle and structural composition of the power cable joint. A real-time temperature monitoring method has been proposed for development. The temperature monitoring system includes temperature sensors located outside the electrical cable joint, data collection, data transmission based on remote data transmission method and data analysis software. The temperature measurement system has the advantages of high reliability, real-time and high accuracy.
