CAPACITY PRICING FOR ELECTRICITY POWER GENERATION THEORY AND PRACTICE OF APPLICATION IN VIETNAM ELECTRICITY MARKET

Abstract

In wholesale competitive electricity market, power plants, in addition to revenue from energy
generated, are also paid an additional capacity payment. This is different from most of other
commodity markets. This article presents the origins of capacity payment in the electricity market
and some analysis on the capacity pricing method presently applied in the Vietnam wholesale
competitive electricity market.
