Abstract

In this paper, based on the synoptic charts, sounding, data analysis and high-resolution simulation (3km) by WRF model with FNL data driven to investigate the causes of the hailstorm from 24th to 25th January 2020 over the Northern Viet Nam. The results show that the penetration of strong and rapid cold surge into the Nothern Viet Nam associated with westerly trough, pre-existed low trough and upper convergence as well as lower freezing level that are favored for thunderstorms development. These intense thunderstorms caused heavy rainfall over the Northern region. In particular, the serveve hailstorms occurced in 24th afternoon and 25th morning that caused huge damage for this area.
