Abstract

This study has conducted assimilation for a whole set of monitoring sea surface current from HF Radar, sea surface temperature and sea surface elevation from multiple satellites based on the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) 4-dimensional variational data assimilation (4D-VAR). Results reveal that the output of assimilation contributes to increasing the accuracy of simulation for surface elevation and sea surface currents in the Tonkin Gulf. During assimilating, the simulated velocity from Ha Tinh to Quang Binh coastal zones ranges 0.7 - 0.9 m/s commonly, equivalent to the marine flow radar data. The study also indicates that the difference of BIAS index and RMSE index between model and observation decreases significantly while its correlation coefficient increases considerably.
