Abstract

The importance of co-benefits in implementing mitigation measures has received much attention lately as a method to accomplish the dual goals of socio-economic development and environmental protection. This study combines a bottom-up approach for GHG inventory and co-benefit valuation approach to quantify the value of carbon credit for GHG mitigation measures in public transport sector in Ha Noi. Evaluations have been proceeded for 3 scenarios of GHG mitigation using modal shifting from personal vehicles to public transport (regular buses, BRT, sky train) using data from Transportation planning of Ha Noi capital by 2030, with a vision to 2050. The obtained research results show that all three types public transport vehicles have the potential to mitigate greenhouse gases, in which, the sky train has outstanding advantages in term of greenhouse gases mitigation. The present value at 2020 of the carbon credit co- benefit reached 1,097.4 billion VND in Ha Noi under the scenario of using sky train to replace personal vehicles.
