Abstract

The coastal provinces of Central Viet Nam suffer from many impacts of climate change in addition to unresolved environmental issues, however, raising people’s awareness of the impacts of climate change and the environment on lives and livelihoods have not yet been given due attention, especially for the students of the lower secondary level. This study aims to assess the current status of education on climate change and environment in the lower secondary curriculum and their changes in awareness and behaviors through co mmunication methods based on guidance on disaster risks due to climate change and green lifestyle. The study was conducted on 8 classes of lower secondary students in grades 6, 7, 8, 9, of 02 lower secondary schools in Duc Pho district, Quang Ngai province in the 2019 - 2020 school year. Research results show that the lower secondary school textbook program has not met the needs of educating their students about climate change and environment. After being co mmunicated, the students had a positive change in awareness, behavior and attitude. The study initially reco mmends a number of ways to enhance the effectiveness of climate change adaptation and environmental protection education in creating a young Viet Namese generation with relevant responsibilities towards climate and environmental protection.
