Abstract

Particularly in October 2020, serveral etreme heavy rainfall events lasting for many consecutive days caused significant damage to infrastructure and human lives. In order to total the experience of forecasting heavy rain in the Central, this study applies synaptic analysis to analyze heavy rains in October 2020 based on large scale circulation calculated from re-analysis data. The results show that the combination of many various meteorological formations, including the development of a meso-scale vortex chain in the Northwest Pacific region, the movement of the cold air to the South of Vietnam and the development of the Madden Julian oscillation (MJO). The low temperature of sea surface in the central Pacific leads to strong trade winds, which are favorable conditions for the formation of a meso-scale vortex chain that cause prolonged heavy rainfall in the Central region.
