Abstract

The complexes of Y3+ and Eu3+ rare earth elements with 2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTFTB) as ligand and
N,N-Dimethyl-N'-(9-methylanthracenyl)ethylenediamine (AnMe2) as auxiliary ligand were synthesized. Two
new complexes M1, M2 were structurally investigated using infrared and mass spectrometry. The structure
of the [Y(TFTB)3AnMe2] (M1) complex was determined by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The
luminescent property of the [Eu(TFTB)3AnMe2] (M2) complex was investigated using absorption
spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The results indicate that Y3+ and Eu3+ ions are
coordinated to six oxygen atoms from three TFTB– ligands and two nitrogen atoms of AnMe2 ligand. The
Eu3+ complexes exhibit strong absorption in the 220 – 400 nm range. Upon reaction with 1O2 (singlet
oxygen), the M2 complex transforms into M2-EPO, which displays a luminescence intensity nearly three
times higher than that of M2.
