Abstract

Activated carbon was prepared from Moringa Oleifera Seed pod by NaOH activation (ACB), and was applied to remove methylene blus (MB) from aqueous solution. The ACB was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The influence of pH (4 - 10), contact time (30 - 180 min), and the amount of adsorbent (0.01 - 0.07 g) on MB efficiency
by the ACB were also investigated. The results show that the time to reach adsorption equilibrium and the optimal pH value for adsorption of MB are 7, 90 min and 0.05g, respectively. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of ACB is 185.19 mg/g. The as-prepared ACB therefore acts as a promising adsorbent for the removal of MB from aqueous solution.
