Abstract

When the uranium is extracted from the ore, most of the ore material becomes a mill waste or tailings, commonly a slurry of finely ground solids in waste solution. As the major portion (at least 97%) of Ra226 input to the mill remains insoluble through the leaching process, the concentration of radium in the tailings is only slightly less than the concentration in the ore. This article introduces the results oftreatment of tailing from uranium ores acid leaching.
