Abstract

This study attempts to analyze factors influencing the profit of swine farmers in Thong Nhat district, Dong Nai province, focusing on the African swine fever factor. The research surveyed 88 swine farming households in communes of Quang Trung, Gia Kiem, Bau Ham 2, Hung Loc, and Lo 25 using the convenience sampling method. The result of the regression model reveals that herd size, food costs, costs for breeds, and the number of African swine fever-infected pigs significantly affected farmers’ profit. Noticeably, the marginal effect of each infected pig on farming households’ profit was -0.888%, so the more infected pigs, the more losses that farmers will suffer. Moreover, the status of African swine fever in the study area is becoming more complicated, so local government and authorities need to actively cooperate to make appropriate solutions and policies for present and future
