Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the characteristics of the Guy’s stone score in patients undergoing mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL).

Methods: This descriptive study included 200 patients with renal calculi who underwent mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL) from January to March 2025 at Binh Dan Hospital.

Results: Based on the Guy’s Stone Score (GSS), the distribution was as follows: GSS I – 19 patients (9.5%), GSS II – 81 patients (40.5%), GSS III – 74 patients (37%), and GSS IV – 26 patients (13%). The overall stone-free rate was 179 out of 200 patients (89.5%). The stone-free rate decreased with increasing GSS grade: 100% (19/19) for GSS I, 93.8% (76/81) for GSS II, 90.5% (67/74) for GSS III and 65.4% (17/26) for GSS IV (p <0.001). Postoperative complications were classified according to the modified Clavien-Dindo system: Grade 0 – 4 patients (2%), Grade 1 – 7 patients (3.5%), and Grade 2 – 18 patients (9%). No major complications (Grade ≥ 3A) were observed.

Conclusion: Initial results suggest that the Guy's Stone Score supports the prediction of the stone-free rate after mini-percutaneous Nephrolithotomy for renal stones patients.
