Abstract

Background: The advancement of antiretroviral therapy has significantly contributed to controlling the transmission and progression of HIV/AIDS. As treatment strategies strategies unceasingly adapt to epidemiological trends and available resources, in-depth research on treatment adherence and related factors remains essential.

Objectives: To determine the rate of ART adherence and associated factors among patients receiving ART at the Hoc Mon District Health Center, Ho Chi Minh City, in 2025.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 258 HIV-positive patients aged 18 years and above, who had been receiving ART for at least six months at the Hoc Mon District Health Center. Data were collected through direct interviews and retrospective review of medical records.

Results: The proportion of patients with good ART adherence was 88%, while 12% exhibited poor adherence. Factors associated with improved adherence included a treatment duration of less than one year. In contrast, hazardous alcohol use was identified as a factor associated with decreased adherence.

Conclusion: It is essential to screen and provide counseling for patients at risk of hazardous alcohol consumption. Support programs should be developed to enhance treatment adherence among long-term ART patients.
