ATTITUDES ABOUT ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE OF FINAL YEAR STUDENTS FROM UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY AT HO CHI MINH CITY

Abstract

Background: Antibiotic resistance (AMR) is an urgent threat to public health because of severe consequences such as longer hospital stays and increased mortality. One of the recommendations to reduce the burden caused by antibiotic resistance is to focus on training students in medical educational institutions to raise awareness about AMR.

Objective: Assess attitudes about antibiotic resistance of final year students from at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 420 final year students of three majors of Medicine, Pharmacy and Bachelor of Nursing, school year 2023 - 2024 from January 2024 to June 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City. Attitude assessment scale was applied with a cutoff point of 60%. Descriptive statistics: on Qualitative quantitative variables: such as frequencies, percentages are were used to describe between variables.

Results: The proportion of students with inappropriate attitudes about antibiotic resistance is was 6% and 94% is was appropriate.

Conclusion: Most students have had appropriate attitudes about antibiotic resistance. Research results show indicate that training has a positive impact on students' attitudes in using proper use of antibiotics.
