Abstract

Background: Evaluating the impact of rehabilitation care on patients' quality of life (QoL) plays a crucial role in understanding the effects and efficiency of this treatment on post-stroke patients.

Objective: To determine the level of QoL and related factors in post-stroke patients with upper limb weakness before and after motor rehabilitation care.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 97 stroke patients with upper limb weakness or paralysis who met the study criteria. Patient's QoL was assessed using the EuroQoL-5 dimension-5 level (EQ-5D-5L) questionnaire and the EQ-VAS scale at before and week fourth after rehabilitation care.

Results: Following rehabilitation care, patient's QoL showed significant improvement. The proportion of patients with moderate QoL increased from 24.8% to 57.7%, although most patients' QoL scores remained at moderate and low levels after four weeks of intervention. The mean score of overall health perception according to the EQ-VAS scale increased from 48.1 ± 11.1 to 61.8 ± 14.2. The average QoL indexes across five health domains (mobility, self-care, daily activities, pain/discomfort, anxiety/depression) assessed by the EQ-5D-5L were also increased from 0.22 ± 0.29 to 0.46 ± 0.25.

Conclusion: The average score of overall health perception, as measured by the EQ-VAS, improved significantly after intervention (p <0.05). Similarly, the mean QoL indexes across five health domains, assessed by the EQ-5D-5L, showed significant improvement (p <0,001), confirming the positive effects of rehabilitation care for stroke patients.
