INADEQUATE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND ITS ASSOCIATED FACTORS IN STUDENTS OF HUNG VUONG HIGH SCHOOL IN BINH DUONG PROVINCE

Abstract

Background: Physical activity (PA) is vital for adolescents' overall development. Inadequate physical exercise enhances the risk of health problems, mortality, and reduces quality of life.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of inadequate physical activity and associated factors in students at Hung Vuong High School, Binh Duong Province in 2024.

Method: This cross-sectional study used multistage sampling to recruit 662 students from February to March 2024. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire consisting of five sections: personal characteristics, family characteristics, school characteristics, screen time and physical activity. GPAQv2 was used to measure physical activity.

Results: The students’ mean age was 17 ± 0.8 years. Females accounted for 51.7% and proportion of 12th-grade students represents were at 38.1%. The prevalence of inadequate physical activity was 25.7%. Students Female students who are females and suffersuffering pressure from teachers’s expectations are were more likely to have higher percentage of adequate physical activity.

Conclusion: Students should limit their time spent sitting or lying down for too long. The school shouldIt is necessary to encourage students, particularly for females, to attend outdoor sports and activities. Teachers should build a convenient learning environment so that students feel free to do more physical activity.
