SURVEY OF MICROORGANISM PREVALENCES IN ACUTE URETHRITIS IN MEN
Abstract
Objectives: Acute urethritis has a complicated etiology. Therefore, we carry out this research to identify the prevalence of microorganisms in male acute urethritis, based on results of realtime – PCR (RT-PCR) STDs kit. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study that analyzed RT-PCR results of 194 men who were diagnosed acute urethritis in Andrology department of Binh Dan hospital between September, 2020 and May, 2021.
Results: 194 cases were collected, mean age was 32.0 ± 8.75. The prevalence of each microorganism was: N. gonorrhoeae 24.7%, C. trachomatis 22.7%, G. vaginalis 19.6%, U. parvum 13.9%, M. genitalium 11.3%, U. urealyticum 10.3%, C. albicans 4.6%, M. hominis 4.1%, HSV 2 1.5%, T. pallidum 0.5%. The mono-infection rate was 43.3%, multi-infection rate was 29.9%, 26.8% cases were unidentified.
Conclusion: Acute urethritis is common in sexually active age groups, that has complicated etiology. RT-PCR plays a crucial role in the diagnosis segment.
