Abstract

Background: Ovarian cancer remains an incurable disease, affecting not only the patient’s physical health but also exerting a significant impact on mental well-being. During chemotherapy, the psychological burden of illness, along with multiple adverse side effects, may contribute to psychiatric disorders, consequently impairing patients’ quality of life and treatment outcomes.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of depression and associated factors among ovarian cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in Tu Du Hospital.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 177 patients aged 18 years and older diagnosed with ovarian cancer and receiving chemotherapy at the Gynecologic Oncology Department of Tu Du Hospital from May 2024 to April 2025. The Vietnamese version of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was used, with a cutoff score of

≥ 11 indicating probable depression.

Results: The prevalence of depression was 14.12%. Negative coping styles and cancer recurrence were significantly associated with higher odds of depression.

Conclusions: Depression is common among ovarian cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Early screening and psychological interventions are essential to improve quality of life and treatment outcomes.
