REVIEW ON FACIAL NECK ABSCESS SURGICAL DRAINAGE INCISION AT CHO RAY HOSPITAL FROM 2020-2021
Abstract
Background: Facial neck abscess is an infectious disease that, if not treated promptly, can lead to septic shock and death. Treatment of abscess requires a multimodal model, in which surgical drainage is an important factor in the treatment process. Objectives: Investigation of clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients with neck and facial abscesses and review on surgical drainage incision for facial neck abscesses.
Methods: A prospective study describing a series of cervical and facial abscesses surgically drained at Department of Otolaryngology at Cho Ray hospital from September 2020 to June 2021.
Results: Through 47 cases, the main symptoms were swelling and pain with 97.9%, limited opening of the mouth with 38.3%, the most isolated bacteria were Streptococcus spp 42.6% and Klebsiella spp 19.2%. The incision below the mandibular margin (58.6%), the incision along the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle (27.7%), the surgical incision with a length of 5.81 ± 1.81 cm, the total length is 9.28 ± 6.77 cm, depth is 4.47 ± 0.91 cm.
Conclusions: Optimum incision into all abscesses, and wide enough for drainage, easy postoperative care is necessary.
