Abstract

This study assesses the knowledge and practical skills related to the classification of medical solid waste among nursing students at Nguyen Tat Thanh University. A cross-sectional descriptive methodology was employed, involving 145 participants, with data collected via Google Forms. Results indicate that 81.3 % of the students possess adequate knowledge about medical solid waste classification, while only 67.6 % demonstrate satisfactory practical skills. Factors such as year of study, gender, engagement with relevant regulations and decrees, and participation in training sessions significantly impact students’ knowledge and practice. A positive correlation between knowledge and practice was observed, suggesting that better knowledge is associated with improved practice. To enhance both knowledge and skills, the study recommends intensifying targeted training and workshops on the classification of medical solid waste for nursing students.
