Cultural and Art tourism: international practices and lessons for Viet Nam

In recent decades, the relationship between culture and tourism has become clearly defined as a specific form of consumption: cultural tourism. The growth of cultural tourism is also marked by its fragmentation into several emerging segments, such as art tourism, heritage tourism, culinary tourism, film tourism, vv.. This article, based on a comprehensive review and analysis of both domestic and international literature, employed an interdisciplinary approach-integrating Tourism studies with Cultural studies, Art Studies, Heritage Studies, and Sociology to address the topic of art tourism, a specific segment within cultural tourism. It explores the global development of this form of tourism and draws lessons from international practices to inform Viet Nam’s own strategies. The paper is structured around the following main themes: (1) Theoretical foundations; (2) An overview of the relationship between culture and cultural tourism; (3) A brief survey of global art tourism; (4) International experiences and lessons for the development of art tourism in Viet Nam.
