Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate pharmacy students' perceptions of the learning environment (LE) at Nguyen Tat Thanh University to determine the aspects in the LE for improvement or better development. A cross-sectional study was conducted from October 11, 2021, to October 20, 2021. 416 students completed an online survey. The Medical School Learning Environment Scale Short Version (MSLES) was used to assess students' perceptions on 2 main aspects of the LE: university and students. The maximum MSLES score is 5. Students had a positive perception toward LE with an overall average score of 2.95 ± 0.73. There were statistically significant differences between the perception scores of LE at 4 factors: gender (p < 0.01), student's academic year (p < 0.01), grade point average (p < 0.001), and financial pressure (p < 0.05). Female students had higher MSLES scores than male students. Third-year students had the lowest scores in all aspects of MSLES. The higher the grade point average, the greater the MSLES scores. University could improve supportiveness, meaningful learning experiences, organization, and help students interact better to create a more positive and effective LE. The breadth of interest, courses and exam organization, and vertical integration have high MSLES scores, so they need to be further fostered.
