Abstract

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is an important factor for diseases related to peptic ulcer disease. Although many randomized controlled clinical trials have been conducted to evaluate the important role of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) and histamin H2 antagonists (H2A) in combination with antibiotics in the treatment of H.Pylori infection, the results are contradictory. The statistical method used in research is inverse variance with random effect model and a confidence interval (Cl) of 95 %.  After screening from searching methods of Cochrane Collaboration standards, the results comprise of 25 experiments synthesized from 21 RCTs which were included in the analysis with 1,763 and 1,730 participants in the PPI and H2RA groups respectively. Compared to patients who take PPI medications, participants receive H2RA show the results with (OR = 1.25; 95 % Cl: 0.81-1.93). In conclusion, H2-antihistamines were as effective as proton pump inhibitors when combining with antibiotics in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori.
