Abstract

Marxist theory of surplus value comes from the study of surplus production
and distribution in free market competitive capitalist economy, the first instance
of a free market in human history. Vietnam has been implementing policies to
foster a socialist oriented market economy. After 30 years of reform and
development, there have been notable achievments and limitations. This article
analyzes the fundamentals of Marxist theory of surplus value and the directives
from the Communist Party of Vietnam with regards to fostering a market
economy, thus offers recommendations to accelerate the growth of Vietnam’s
market economy.
