Abstract

In this study, Vietnamese bamboo strips were dyed using a natural colorant
extracted from Rhizoma Dioscorea Cirrhosa by the exhaustion method. Various
dyeing factors including temperature, pH and several mordant species were
investigated to optimize the chromatic behaviour of dyed bamboo strips. The
dyed bamboo strips were analyzed by the CIEL*a*b* color space and FTIR
analyses. The optimal dyeing conditions were defined as follows: high
temperature (85 - 90°C), alkaline medium (pH = 9 - 10), dyeing time 60 min and
liquor ratio 1:20. The results showed that salt-mordanting significantly changed
the chromatic behaviour of dyed bamboo strips.
