Abstract

This paper presents researching solutions for monitoring, alerting and proposing a model to predict sea
water intrusion via wireless network in the lower Mekong River in Tien Giang province, Vietnam. A
mathematical model is proposed to describe the process of saltwater intrusion inland at the estuary whereby
seawater intrusion is simulated and helps to make predictions in a timely manner. To experiment the proposed
simulation model, the authors built a data acquisition system via wireless network which is capable of
collecting data on salinity, pH, temperature, altitude of water level, etc The initial results of the study is to
improve the data acquisition system and record the change history of values, or even to provide necessary
warnings. This data will be combined with hydrometeorological and topographic data and used as inputs to a
mathematical model inputs to make predictions of seawater intrusion. Thus, it will not only help the state
management agencies to issue policies in a timely manner, but also help the local people to be more proactive
in dealing with saline intrusion to minimize the damage caused by the invasion process of saltwater intrusion.
