Abstract

Rollover is the type of accident that causes the most serious consequences in
road traffic accidents. In order to improve the automotive roll stability, most cars
are now equipped with passive anti-roll bars. In this paper, the authors focus on
researching about the influence and effectiveness of the passive anti-roll bars on
the roll stability of cars when compared with the passive suspension system
without the passive anti-roll bars. First, a full car model is established to study
the roll stability of cars. After that, the authors calculated and determined the
torsional stiffness in order to choose a parameter suitable to the reality of the
passive anti-roll bars. Survey results in the time and frequency domains have
clearly shown the effectiveness of the suspension system equipped with passive
anti-roll bars when compared to a conventional suspension system without
passive anti-roll bars in reducing the impact of the road surface to the roll
oscillation of cars.
