Abstract

The scientific study of religious symbols is a complex and intriguing field of research. Catholicism is a religion founded on symbolism, and therefore, its system of symbols is rich, holding significant theological value and meaning for the faith of its believers. In this article, we delve into the study of Catholic symbols found in short stories created as part of the movement celebrating 400 years of Vietnamese Catholic literature. By taking a holistic approach through the lenses of iconography, anthropology, and theology, we aim to decode the meanings of religious symbols in literature and culture. This helps reveal the role of symbols in expressing Catholic faith as portrayed in contemporary literature and community life today.
