ANALYSIS OF THE CAUSES OF CRACKS IN STAINLESS STEEL WELDING

Abstract

In this work, the results of the study on the evaluation of the causes of corrosion spots on water tanks made from stainless steel are presented. The results of the study have shown that corrosion spots appear at locations around the welds of stainless steel. By analyzing the structure, the study has shown that the changes in structure around the welds; the discontinuity of the welds are the main causes of these corrosion spots. The paper also points out some heat treatment options to improve the mechanical properties of the welds. The experimental heat treatment process is determined at temperatures of 400oC; 600oC and 900oC.
