CHATGPT: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Abstract

The rapid development of artificial intelligence, especially ChatGPT, has brought many new opportunities to the field of education, including testing and assessment activities. This tool supports personalized feedback, exam design, automated grading, and facilitates innovative teaching methods. However, ChatGPT also poses several challenges, such as the risk of academic dishonesty, a decline in students’ critical thinking, and difficulties in verifying the accuracy of information.This paper aims to comprehensively analyze the aforementioned opportunities and challenges through a literature review and a survey of lecturers and students at DNTU. The results show that ChatGPT can become a powerful support tool if used properly, but it also carries many risks if misused or applied without clear direction. Accordingly, the paper proposes several solutions such as establishing AI usage protocols within educational institutions, enhancing academic ethics education, and adjusting testing and assessment methods to meet the demands of quality and fairness in higher education in the digital age.
