Developing the ability to use polysemous words through an exercise system for 5th grade students in Cao Lanh city, Dong Thap province

Abstract
In primary education, the task of developing vocabulary skills through polysemous word exercises is essential in contributing to the formation and development of students' language abilities. Teaching polysemous words requires teachers not only to master theoretical knowledge but, more importantly, to help students acquire the necessary skills and form essential competencies such as linguistic thinking, vocabulary usage, communication skills, and more. Competency is always formed through practice and application. This article presents basic concepts of competency, various perspectives on polysemous words from linguists, and proposes different types of polysemous word exercises aimed at developing competencies. The main types include finding words, defining words, identifying words, and creating sentences with polysemous words.
