Abstract

Folklore includes many narrative genres: fairy tales, legends, myths, jokes, fables, etc. Characters in each genre will enjoy their own distinct characteristics. However, many folk narrative genres share the property that characters are often associated with fantasy elements. It is a consequence of fiction, fantasy and the typical worldview of the working people of the time. Of modern children stories, this imprint is clearly shown through three trends: virtualizing real characters, assimilating people and objects, and the presence of super-characters. This proves that even though it is the product of different cultural, social and artistic contexts, there is still a definite connection between folklore and contemporary children stories.
